GREEN BUILDING is also known as SUSTAINABLE BUILDING or GREEN CONSTRUCTION.

Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction.

SOME OF THE WELL KNOWN GREEN BUILDINGS IN INDIA 

1. SUZLON ONE EARTH, PUNE

Suzlon believes in creating and maintaining a positive environment, both outside its office walls as well as on the inside. 

Suzlon One Earth is the embodiment of this belief. Situated in Pune, India, it is the eco-friendly, self-sufficient headquarters of the company. 

The campus is spread across 10 acres and is completely powered by renewable energy, including hybrid wind turbines, solar panels and photovoltaic cells.

 

2. ITC GREEN CENTRE, GURGAON

ITC Green Centre is the ‘World’s Largest Platinum Rated Green Office Building’.

The 180,000 sft Office Building was designed and built after extensive research.  

The external facade of this building was developed on a modern classical manner. 

The weighty stone base rooted to the earth represents ITC’s appreciation of classical design. It’s vision for the future was addressed by elements of glass - lightweight and hi-tech.


3. RMZ ECOSPACE, KOLKATA 

Ecospace Business Park at Kolkata is a green building complex being developed by RMZ Corp in collaboration with Ambuja Realty. 

Ecospace has significant credibility as the first LEED pre-certified Platinum Green Building. 

Spread over 20 acres of land, the complex will have a total built up area of 2 million square feet on completion, making it one of the largest green office buildings.


4. PATNI KNOWLEDGE CENTER, NOIDA

Patni Knowledge Center in Noida, India, Awarded the LEED Platinum Rating

The eco-friendly facility is now the largest LEED Platinum rated building outside the U.S. and the second largest in the world.

5. OLYMPIA TECH PARK, CHENNAI

Olympia Tech Park is the largest and one of the oldest Information Technology office locations in Chennai, India. With about 1.8 million sq. ft. area, it is also the first large green building in the city.

The technology park consists of three towers (phases), namely, Citius, Altius and Fortius.


6. INFINITY BENCHMARK, KOLKATA 

It is a Platinum rated Green Building as certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) under LEED. 

This is amongst 7 such buildings in the world, 2nd outside USA and the first in eastern India. 

The building has the maximum flexibility and cost efficiency for activities ranging from wet laboratories to software development, IT services, and even data centers. 

Well connected roads and with the nearby International airport, Infinity Benchmark is easily accessible for the working community.

 

7. INDIRA PARYAVARAN BHAWAN, NEW DELHI 

Indira Paryavaran Bhawan in New Delhi is the first zero net energy building constructed in India with passive solar power generation. 

Due to inadequacy of roof-top area, additional area was provided through cantilever structural arrangement. 

Net zero energy building is the outcome of energy efficient architectural, structural, material, electrical and air-conditioning design.


8. CRISIL HOUSE, MUMBAI

CRISIL House is a state-of-the-art “green” building, designed to optimise consumption of scarce water and energy resources. CRISIL aims to obtain the highest LEED certification for the 211,000-square-foot building, and the LEED certification process is in progress.

The building’s features are expected to reduce CRISIL’s energy consumption by 40%, and water consumption by 30%. 


9. ITC MAURYA, DELHI

The ITC Maurya is the world’s first and largest LEED Platinum rated hotel to use Parabolic solar concentrators. 

The magnificent building has been awarded the ‘Best Eco-Friendly Hotel’ at India’s National Tourism Awards and recycles almost 99 percent of its solid waste (by means of recycling programs or composting). 

Over 30 percent of food and beverages used are locally sourced - harvested and processed within a radius of 160 km. 

Another distinguishing feature of the building is that it uses low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints.


10. INFOSYS, HYDERABAD

The Infosys IT SEZ at Pocharam is a 450-acre campus. The Phase-1 of this campus has a built-up area of 30 lakh sq. ft. with 16,000 seats, software development blocks, residential training facilities, food courts, recreational facilities, multi-level car park, water treatment plant, sewage treatment plant, and utility blocks. 

The campus has been recognized globally as one of the greenest campuses with world-class innovation in sustainability. 

The campus was the first to adopt radiant cooling technology in India. 

Several other features of the campus such as the high performance fa├žade, naturally-lit office spaces, efficient water management with smart metering, super-efficient chiller plants, lakes for rainwater harvesting, and a bio-gas plant for waste treatment have been exemplary for the industry. 


11. CISCO BUILDING, BANGLORE

Cisco’s B-16 office in Bangalore has been awarded the LEED Platinum ID + C (Interior Design and Construction) certification by the USGBC for scoring 96 out of 110 total points. 

The campus sources more than 70,00,000 Kwh of green power per annum and recycles 100 percent of waste water. 

It has a high-performance glazing and energy-efficient HVAC design and uses recycled materials and rapidly renewable materials for construction. 

Ventilation and temperature controls enable occupants (approximately 51%) to adjust temperatures according to their preferences.
